Last week, Browne joined fellow industry leaders at the BuildForce National Armed Forces Insight Day, an event that connects service leavers, veterans, reservists and military spouses exploring the next stage of their careers with employers in the UK construction and built environment sectors.

Hosted by AtkinsRéalis, the event provided a valuable platform for individuals to learn more about opportunities within the industry. Through networking sessions, one-to-one conversations and career guidance, attendees were able to gain insight into the wide range of roles available across construction and infrastructure.

Representing Browne, Operations Director Mark Lloyds and Head of SHEQ Leigh Griffiths met with service leavers and veterans to discuss career opportunities within the business and the wider sector. Conversations focused on the breadth of pathways available, from site-based and operational roles through to engineering, project management and professional support functions.

The event also provided an opportunity to highlight the many transferable skills developed through military service. Leadership, teamwork, resilience, communication and the ability to perform effectively under pressure are qualities that align strongly with the demands of the construction and infrastructure industries. As the sector continues to tackle skills shortages and deliver increasingly complex projects, attracting talented individuals from a broad range of backgrounds remains a key priority.

"Talking to numerous armed forces personnel highlighted the strength and depth of knowledge and experience these individuals had that could be translated into the world of engineering and construction.

They have had people skills and situation management appreciation deeply ingrained into their DNA, creating strong and resilient leaders that the construction industry can benefit from in the future"

Mark Lloyds, Operations Director

For Browne, such events are an opportunity not only to showcase career opportunities within the business but also to demonstrate our commitment to welcoming talent from different professional backgrounds. The experience and perspective that Armed Forces personnel bring can make a significant contribution to both project delivery and team development.

We would like to thank BuildForce and AtkinsRéalis for hosting us and look forward to continuing our support for programmes that connect a skilled and often underutilised workforce with rewarding careers in construction and infrastructure.
