Browne Prepare for Victorian Mains Replacement Project on Fonthill Road, Islington

On behalf of Thames Water, Browne will soon be delivering a significant infrastructure project along Fonthill Road, Islington. Over the course of approximately 11 weeks, two aging cast iron mains, a 4-inch and 6-inch, will be replaced by a larger 180mm polyethylene barrier pipe. This rationalisation will improve the network's efficiency and significantly reduce the likelihood of bursts and service interruptions.

As part of the Victorian mains replacement framework, the works will be carried out in phases, allowing Fonthill Road to remain partially open, minimising disruption for residents and businesses.

“Installing water mains and sewers in busy streets is always going to be disruptive! However, at Browne we work with local communities to keep that disruption to a minimum. We proactively engage with residents and businesses before works commence to deliver innovative solutions to customers’ concerns”
— Iain McPherson, Head of Customer

Recently, Browne hosted a drop-in session on behalf of Thames Water to inform local business owners about the upcoming works. The session was a real success, with business owners expressing support for the project and understanding its long-term benefits.

Key team members responsible for the project include Jason Bulloch (Site Agent), Sam Matthews (Supervisor), and Dave Barrett (Team Leader). Browne will be sharing regular updates as the works progress to keep the community informed.
