Infrastructure

Infrastructure is the core of our business, reputation, and continued success.

Overview

Our backbone, and the engine behind our growth.

Over 70% of Browne’s work is delivered within this workstream, making us one of the UK’s most trusted water and wastewater infrastructure contractors. With decades of delivery behind us, we specialise in tackling complex utilities projects with confidence, control, and an uncompromising focus on safety and sustainability.

What sets us apart

Delivering the UK’s most critical utilities infrastructure

Complexity with precision

From deep shafts and live networks to constrained urban sites, we thrive in the most challenging environments

Agile, data-driven delivery

With flexible delivery models combined with digital tools, we adapt in real time to keep infrastructure projects moving at pace.

Built for a sustainable future

We embed low-carbon materials, off-site methods, and circular economy thinking to deliver sustainable, future-ready systems.

Key Workstream

Clean Water Infrastructure

Our teams design and build pipeline and pumping systems for both urban upgrades and rural extensions, ensuring secure, efficient, and compliant water distribution. Every project is future-proofed through advanced digital modelling, smart sensors, and proactive asset management.

Core Capabilities:

  • Deep shaft construction and large-diameter trunk main installation
  • Trenchless pipeline techniques to reduce environmental impact
  • Pumping station upgrades and treatment plant resilience
  • Integration of digital asset monitoring and AI-driven diagnostics
  • Rehabilitation and reinforcement of existing water networks

"On major capital delivery programmes, we collaborate for success. In the last investment period, the Thames Water Browne team delivered over 39% of the Mains Renewal Programme through a data-driven, agile, and efficient approach, proving what's possible when expertise and collaboration align."

Key Workstream

Wastewater Infrastructure

Our wastewater infrastructure work supports public health, protects the environment, and reduces flood risks. With a focus on low-carbon delivery and ecological best practices, we tackle complex underground projects in some of the UK’s most demanding environments. For either new systems or upgrades to aging networks, our wastewater infrastructure solutions balance performance, sustainability, and cost efficiency, backed by decades of experience in major urban centres and environmentally sensitive rural areas.

Core Capabilities:

  • Deep sewer systems and rising mains
  • Stormwater and flood mitigation schemes
  • Interceptor upgrades and replacement
  • Network capacity upgrades aligned with population growth

Renewables & Heating Networks

Browne designs and installs heat network solutions, and provides developers with multi-utility connections. From design, excavation, and installation, to commissioning and handover, we partner with local authorities, energy providers, and developers to deliver carbon-cutting infrastructure with minimal disruption.

As the UK accelerates toward Net Zero, we are scaling our delivery of low-carbon energy systems, combining technical know-how with efficient, city-sensitive delivery.

Core Capabilities:

  • District heating trenching and installation of pipework

  • Deep excavation and tunnelling in constrained urban environments

  • Sewer and Multi Utility Connections

Multi-Utility & Civil Engineering Enabling Works

Alongside our core infrastructure services, Browne also delivers utility connection and civil engineering enabling works across gas, electricity, and multi-utility networks, primarily for private sector clients such as developers, energy companies, and commercial operators. We provide enabling works that prepare complex sites for construction, connection, and long-term operation.

Key Capabilities:

  • Enabling Works: Clearance, demolition, and groundworks for rapid mobilisation

  • Utility Coordination: Liaising with utility providers and authorities to smooth delivery

  • Service Diversions: Diverting and connecting gas, electric, water, and telecoms

  • Access & Highways: Managing roads and traffic in line with safety and planning
